HP Apps To Remove If You Want To Upgrade To Windows 8 From Windows 7 Pro

If you’re running an HP ProBook and want to upgrade from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 8 Pro or Enterprise then you’ll need to remove some OEM Apps that HP installed at the factory.

When you first run the Windows 8 installation, the software will run some tests to search for incompatible software. You’ll be informed before an installation occurs if anything should get uninstalled. In my case the Windows 8 upgrade advisory report informed me that I would need to uninstall HP Protect Tools. If you attempt to uninstall this as instructed it’s not going to work because other Apps must first be uninstalled. The Windows 8 upgrade report will not inform you of this.

Here’s what you’ll want to uninstall:

  • HP Face Recognition
  • FileĀ SanitizerĀ for HP
  • Privacy Manager for HP
  • Theft Recovery for HP
  • HP Tools Device Access Manager
  • Drive Encryption for HP protect tools
  • HP Protect Tools (do this one last)
